The environment at Fixby House Nursery

At Fixby House Nursery we have over 20 years of experience of providing the very best in care and education for young children. Children who attend Fixby House Nursery are happy, socially confident and curious learners. Within our bright and airy nursery we have different areas, thoughtfully designed to challenge and support children as they grow and learn.

Our OFSTED Outstanding rated team will be with your child every step of the way, celebrating their achievements and providing stimulating and creative play and learning experiences.

Babies (0-24 months)

Our baby room at this Huddersfield nursery provides your child with a warm, nurturing experience from their very first day with us. In the baby room the emphasis is on developing nurturing relationships and providing outstanding care.

Trusting relationships are important for building confidence and so we invest time getting to know your family. In the months leading up to your little one’s first day at Fixby House Nursery we welcome you to our twice weekly stay and play mornings where we can begin building those all-important bonds.

Tweenies (2-3 years)

Your child will join the Tweenies at a stage of their young lives where they are gaining independence and building upon their self-belief. Our team recognise the importance of fostering your child’s emerging confidence at this important stage. We will support them to build positive relationships with our team and their peers through shared activities.

Your child will venture out regularly to explore the local area. We have our own forest school where your child will explore nature; playing through the trees and searching for minibeasts!

By the time your child joins the Tweenies they are already their own little being with a truly unique personality. They are now able to express their likes and dislikes and have developed their own playing and learning styles. We provide activities based on children’s individual interests to engage and interest them, which allows learning to happen naturally.

Pre-school (3+ years)

Our pre-school provides your child with a vast array of opportunities to express themselves. With role-play areas, equipped with props and costumes, enable your child to act out their ideas with friends and build skills such as cooperation and collaboration. A large messy-play area allows your child to experiment with a variety of media and the state-of-the-art, interactive computer table encourages the exploration of IT and improves hand-eye coordination.

Pre-school is led by Sophia, who is an inspirational leader who has a wealth of experience in early years.  Sophia and the team of highly qualified and caring educators prepare your child for school by supporting them to be independent and instilling in them a love of learning.

Science, literacy and mathematics feature prominently at Fixby House Nursery and are taught through playful exploration.

Fixby School of Cookery

Each month, the children take part in the school of cookery at Fixby House Nursery. Your child will adore spending time with our talented chef, and creating dishes such as leek and potato soup, salmon and broccoli fishcakes and spinach and sweet potato curry. With  skilful tutoring, your child will learn about where their food comes from and how diet contributes to a healthy lifestyle.

Forest School

At Fixby House Nursery, your child will benefit from regular trips to our Forest School in a beautiful country field in the direct vicinity.

What is Forest School?

Forest school is a back to nature approach to education with an emphasis on the social and emotional aspects of children’s development. It is inspired by the Scandinavian educational model.

What are the benefits of Forest School?

Through regularly spending time in a natural, outdoor environment, your child will build upon their self-esteem and confidence, improve their ability to engage and work together with others and show improved creative skills and emotional resilience. Play based, child-led learning in a natural environment has been proven to have a highly positive impact on children’s cognitive skills and lead to higher academic achievement.

What parents say about us

We build strong, positive relationships with children and their families.

“Such an amazing nursery based in Huddersfield, I couldn’t have picked anywhere better for my daughter. All the staff have helped her settle in so well and after a few short weeks she is always so excited to be dropped off knowing she will get to have lots of fun. Can’t wait to see all the great things she will learn and create over the next few years as she moves through all the rooms.”

“Can not recommend this nursery highly enough. My 2-year-old moved from another nursery where she was very settled and I worried that the move would upset her. The staff are amazing and the settling in sessions were a great help. My little girl loves going and natters away when she gets home, telling me about all the things she’s done during the day. Couldn’t be happier.”
